General
Information
MAIN ROOMS
Comprising
of a large open plan general purpose lounge and fully furnished dining
area.
HEATING AND LIGHTING
The
power for the centre comes from a self start generator. There is
fluorescent strip lighting throughout the building and power points in all
the rooms. A Swedish type wood burning stove is situated in the main
lounge. This provides heat which radiates throughout the centre.
Supplementary gas heaters are also located in all rooms.
INDOOR ACTIVITIES
In case
of inclement weather visiting groups may find it useful to bring indoor
games e.g. draughts, dominoes etc. Such provision is not made by Craikhope
Centre.
DORMITORY ACCOMMODATION
There
are two dormitories comprising of 13 bed's in each room. (Extra bed's may
be available on request) The leader accommodation comprises of a separate
room with three single beds. There are blankets and pillows provided for
all the beds in the centre.
The
number of people sleeping overnight in the centre is restricted to a
maximum of 29, but visiting parties who exceed this number may erect their
own tented accommodation in the grounds of the centre.
All
groups should note that pillowcases and sleeping bags must be supplied by
all visiting parties.
KITCHEN
There is
a large fully fitted kitchen with all the necessary cooking and eating
utensils provided to cater for 30 people. There is a large ultra modern
cooker operated by gas which is piped into the building from a central gas supply
outside. The kitchen is fitted out with large worktops and stainless steel
sink units. Hot and cold water is on tap and a domestic fridge/freezer is
proved.
DRYING ROOM/SPARE BEDROOM
This
average sized room is fully equipped with powerful wall heaters and hanging
racks. It is excellent for drying all articles of clothing , tentage, etc
This
room on request can be converted into a single bedroom (prior notice is
required)
TOILET AND WASHROOM
There
are separate male and female toilets and washroom facilities complete with
wash basins and showers. Hot water is readily available. This area of the
centre has been designed to facilitate use of wheelchairs for any disabled
visitors staying at the centre.
ACTIVITY AREAS
To the
North of the centre is sited a picnic/barbecue area. To the East is a large
flat grass area suitable for all types of ball games and other sporting
activities.
A large
man made pond 3 – 4 feet deep for water based activities and field
studies is also at the visitors disposal.
FIRST AID
There is
an advanced First Aid Kit and stretcher within the centre for use in
emergencies. Any piece of First Aid Equipment used should be reported to
the Caretaker who will replace it.
GENERATOR
The
leader of the party will be briefed on the use of this equipment by the
Caretaker.
FIRE PRECAUTIONS
Fire
extinguishers are located in all areas of the centre and a smoke detector
system is incorporated in the building plus a fire alarm. The centre is also
connected to automatic emergency lighting throughout the building.
COUNTRY CODE
Users of
Craikhope centre are expected to observe the Country Code at all times and
respect the surrounding environment.
